The idea of perfect
It all begins with an idea.
Many of us know without a doubt that perfection isn’t attainable, yet an inner drive or monologue pushes us ever closer to reaching for it.
How do we navigate challenges when we ultimately fall short of perfection? Each of us can highlight a time when we envisioned our efforts not being enough and thus ultimately made early decisions to pull out of the race. We all have also likely been infuriated to find that sometimes even our best efforts were perfectly executed, yet things did not “work out” or go as planned.
Society is opening its eyes to the idea of rest and balance, yet even with that knowledge, navigating a path forward poses as many challenges as before. If perfection is an unrealistic expectation, how do we make peace with it?
Mental Health Mantras: “I am doing my very best, and each day that may look different.”
Step into a Friend's Shoes: How might you respond if a friend shared these thoughts with you? Would you look down on them for having an unfinished to-do list?
Set a plan: Schedule time for rest as you set or review your schedule for the week.
Self-exploration: What tasks make you feel really good about yourself? What sorts of activities bring you peace or joy? Does listening to music in your headphones while vacuuming make it enjoyable? What do you think about setting aside time to read a favorite book?
As each of us feels unique in our struggles, we may find solutions that work uniquely for us.
